Rotation looks likely against Zrinjski, as a result, Unai Emery may hand an Aston Villa to Filip Marschall, with Robin Olsen potentially out, but who is he?
Giving a young player his debut makes sense because the Villans are already certain of moving on to the next round.
After a demanding week of games, Unai Emery may decide to significantly rotate his team now that he has already guaranteed his team’s spot in the next round.
Villa has risen to third position in the Premier League and is solidly in the Champions League spots after victories over Manchester City and Arsenal.
Their focus will now shift to the continent in an attempt to win their group and pick up at least a point. Having said that, Emery might start a kid and give him his big break.
Who is Filip Marschall?
Emi Martinez is probably going to be rested tonight, thus Filip Marschall might make his Villa debut. Robin Olsen might not make the matchday teams again after missing the last two.
The former England youth international, who is 20 years old, has recently been out on loan at Gateshead. Over his two stints with the now-National League team, the goalie has performed admirably.
During his first stint with The Head, he maintained eight clean sheets in twenty appearances, which helped them stay in the league. After assisting them in winning the National League North championship in the 2021–2022 season, Marschall is on his second stint with the team. Due to his participation in the Villa team that won the FA Youth Cup at Villa Park in 2021, Marschall has another trophy added to his resume.
In August 2022, he inked a new contract with Villa because of the team’s dedication to the goalkeeper and his future.
He has played three times for the Under 21 team in the EFL Trophy this season. He helped one victory come about. The other two ended in intensely contested, highly scored losses. This season, he has started just 11 games for the first team, but it may be time for him to make his debut.
Olsen might not play against Zrinjski since he was ineligible to play against Arsenal and Manchester City last week. This could be the ideal chance for Marschall to make his Villans debut.
