Cowboys HC Makes His Thoughts Clear On Road Struggles

Even with their impressive 10-5 record, the Dallas Cowboys have experienced ups and downs this season.

They were formidable in September, a little wobbly in October and the first part of November, but they reeled off five straight victories and appeared to be Super Bowl favorites.

But Dallas has fallen short against a Miami Dolphins team that had not beaten any winning teams in the previous two weeks, as well as a Buffalo Bills team that was struggling.

Turnovers are one of the reasons Dallas has struggled away from home, despite their explosive play at home.

Head coach Mike McCarthy said they simply have to be better when it comes to taking care of the ball, per Calvin Watkins.

The Cowboys’ first offensive series against Miami ended with quarterback Dak Prescott fumbling the ball away. Although he played well generally, he was unable to save his team from falling down 19-10 in the third quarter.

With 3:32 remaining in the fourth quarter, it looked like he had completed a key touchdown pass to wide receiver Brandin Cooks, but the Dolphins managed the clock and Jason Sanders’ field goal as time expired gave them a 22–20 victory.

For the Cowboys during the past few years, winning games against good opponents—especially when it matters most—seems to be their worst weakness.

They were defeated by the Philadelphia Eagles in a close game in Week 9, and it now appears unlikely that they will surpass Philly to take the top spot in the NFC East.

That would indicate that in order to get to the Super Bowl, the Cowboys would probably need to play the Eagles and/or the San Francisco 49ers on the road. That would be a difficult assignment for a club that is only 3-5 away from home in 2023.
