Micah Richards now urges Aston Villa to sign 24-year-old Leeds United target in January

Aston Villa’s Micah Richards has urged the team to sign Villarreal and Chilean striker Ben Brereton Diaz in January, given rumors that Leeds United may try to make an unexpected move the following month.

Leeds was interested in 24-year-old Brereton Diaz before he joined Villarreal from Blackburn in the summer. It follows two seasons of 36 Championship goals scored. However, Brereton Diaz is having trouble at Villarreal.

In his 17 games for his new club, Brereton Diaz has failed to score. He thought he got off the mark in a recent clash against Sevilla, scoring in the final seconds to win 2-1 – only for the goal to be ruled out.

Transfer expert Ben Jacobs reported earlier this month that Brereton Diaz could re-emerge on Leeds’ radar next month, with Villarreal perhaps open to his exit – as he continues to struggle to find his form.

Richards, a pundit and former Villa player, recently stated on The Rest Is Football podcast that Villa ought to consider acquiring Brereton Diaz, or “someone left-field.” An attacker to shield Ollie Watkins from danger.

In the most recent episode of TRF, Richards stated, “You know who I’m going to go with, someone left field and you guys probably haven’t seen him play, no disrespect, because we don’t watch a lot of Championship.”

We don’t always see the games because we’re constantly working. Someone similar to Blackburn’s [Ben] Brereton Diaz. I mean, someone who’s kind of on the edge of a certain level.

Whether Brereton Diaz is willing to leave Villarreal in January will be an intriguing development. He might believe that he needs more time to adjust, and Villarreal might also hold that opinion. He hasn’t shown that he is a great striker.

Unai Emery would have to go against his prior reputation if he moved to Villa, and Villarreal might not want to do business with their former manager either. At Villa, he would be the backup. He might be first choice at Leeds.

Joel Piroe and Georginio Rutter are starting for Leeds right now. However, Brereton Diaz provides shelter from above as well as from the left. He might become a target if players like Patrick Bamford and Joe Gelhardt decide to leave.
