‘I think he would go’ – £100m-rated Aston Villa star tipped to make stunning Arsenal move in January
Douglas Luiz, a midfielder for Aston Villa, is willing to join Arsenal in January, according to Alan Brazil, provided the North London team can reach an agreement.
It’s no secret that Mikel Arteta adores the Brazil international, as evidenced by the Gunners’ summer 2022 interest in the Villains star.
Since Unai Emery took over as manager of the Midlands team, Luiz has been a major contributor to Aston Villa’s success. This season, he has made 16 Premier League appearances, tallying five goals and dishing out two assists.
Aston Villa is presently two points behind the top-ranked Gunners in third position in the table, partly due to his performances.
Due to Luiz’s impressive performances, Liverpool is reportedly prepared to challenge Arsenal for his signature, according to recent sources.
But Emery won’t allow one of his greatest players go for pennies on the dollar; the manager will only consider bids that come in around £100 million.
Arsenal will need to sell players before sanctioning another big-money signing in January, but it’s no surprise to see Arteta interested as a midfield partnership of Luiz and Declan Rice is a mouth-watering prospect.
Brazil and McCoist disagree on Luiz to Arsenal
Speaking on talkSPORT, Brazil declared that Luiz would support a January transfer to Arsenal wholeheartedly.
The money is substantial, McCoist remarked. “He’s a talented player who is leading them all, but for £100 million? No, Brazil replied.
“I believe that this is a wonderful argument if Arsenal entered because Villa is a very, very excellent club.
However, you may argue that Arsenal is one of London’s best teams.
They have a great deal of strength. If the money came in and Villa said, “We’ve had a bit, it’s a lot, do you want to go?” I believe it would be difficult for him. I believe he would leave.
However, McCoist isn’t entirely persuaded because Luiz might be enticed to stay at Villa given their recent success.
“Yeah, there is a part of that,” McCoist said.
“I think he probably stays if Villa wants to keep him, but if the club says they have got an offer and they think it’s a reasonable bid, they are directing you in that direction.
“I understand your point about Arsenal, but Villa is playing so well right now that it’s not the same as it was three or four years ago, when it would be an automatic choice.”
