Abdallah Sima is perfect Rangers fit for now as Brighton loan boss details script flip from previous loan spell.

Gordon Greer, the head of Brighton loans, believes that Abdullah Sima is best suited at Rangers—for the time being. The Senegal international, who moved from the Seagulls to Ibrox last summer and has scored 15 goals, is someone Philippe Clement wants to sign a long-term contract with.

Even so, Greer maintains that the Premier League team is “really happy” with Sima’s progress while he is temporarily in Govan, two years after they paid more than £6 million to sign the 22-year-old from Slavia Prague. Greer, a former Scotland defender who is currently Brighton’s pathway development manager, has traveled up north multiple times to watch the 22-year-old play.

And he reckons Rangers’ attacking style with Sima playing off the left of the frontline suits him to a tee. He said: “I’ve been up twice in the last few weeks to see him and he’s a great kid. He’s worked really hard. It wasn’t easy at the start for him, but he’s banging a few goals in and it’s great to see him doing so well.

“He has got some really good and strong attributes. You can see it in the games, especially sometimes when they play a wee bit deeper, and you can see him explode into the space.

“We’re really happy. Last year he was with Angers in France, and I monitored him over there. The club were happy that he was getting the minutes, but they were not a great side. They struggled in a lot of games, so flipped it on its head this year.

He joined Rangers, a team that ought to be kind of winning everything, so it’s fantastic for him that he’s getting the opportunities and netting the goals. Thus, we are quite pleased with his progress.” Greer, who played over 230 games for Brighton and earned 11 matches for Scotland, is supporting Steve Clarke’s team to bring home the gold at the Euros this summer. Billy Gilmour, the Seagulls’ star player, is probably traveling to Germany with the team. Greer continued, saying:

Billy and I don’t talk much about the circumstances. More than anything, it’s just him enjoying himself. However, the boys have been performing so well that it’s fantastic that they’ve now qualified for two.

“We have always had relatively good players, but I think Steve Clarke has got them going. He has made them into a solid unit and it’s great to see so many young lads coming through and doing well. So, credit to him. He has got them really well disciplined, really well drilled and they are hard to beat.”
