Josh Doig has told Verona he wants to join Torino as Rangers get set to potentially miss out on the left-back.

As the team gets ready for a window of opportunity to make changes at left back, there has been a lot of conjecture linking Rangers with a transfer for 21-year-old former Hibs player Doig. There is further drama in the case because Verona of Serie A is rumored to be closing in on Rangers player Ridvan Yilmaz. It was reported that Rangers might attempt to work out a trade agreement with Verona in which Josh Doig would return to Scotland and the Turkish international would go to Italy.

Josh Doig tells Verona he wants Torino move

With links to Torino getting stronger by the day, it appears the left-back has made his mind up this January as a switch to the Serie A side gets closer. At least that’s according to Italian outlet Calciomercato, who are reporting that Josh Doig had told Verona he wants to move to Turin.

The report claims that Torino director Davide Vagnati is increasingly confident a deal will be done with Doig already verbally agreeing to move across Serie A.It is claimed that Josh Doig has also informed Verona of his intention to move via his agents, despite the fact he played just over 70 minutes in the weekend’s 2-1 defeat to Inter Milan.

Rangers left-back hunt continues

The rumors about Josh Doig joining Rangers are based on reports that the Italians seek €6 million (£5.2 million) for the young left-back, which automatically eliminates Rangers from the competition.

Rangers is anticipated to be active in the January transfer window as well, with left-back being a more problematic position in the team.

This comes amid rumors that Verona is nearing a deal to sign Ridvan Yilmaz, with the club’s transfer funds having been increased by Filippo Terracciano’s sale to AC Milan.Rangers have been connected to a number of players for the left back position, so it’s an interesting situation all around. However, the club hasn’t made much progress in finding a replacement.

Kai Wagner (Philadelphia Union), Gijs Smal (FC Twente), and Fredrik Oppegard (PSV Eindhoven) are the Rangers left-back links which have yet to be ruled out.Boss Philippe Clement and new director of football recruitment Nils Koppen are both Belgian and will have one eye on talents in their homeland.

Just a few days ago, reports from Belgium claimed that Rangers had received an offer to sign midfielder Steven Alzate, who plays for Brighton. Being a former Rangers player himself, Brighton technical director David Weir would think that Alzate would be a perfect fit for a transfer to Ibrox. Rangers have other priorities, therefore Belgian reporter Sacha Tavolieri has downplayed a move to Glasgow for the time being, but Alzate is an intriguing talent.

Steven Alzate, the story so far

Alzate began his career in the juvenile ranks at Leyton Orient. He is a native of Camden, London.Alzate was selected by Brighton in 2017 after making just 12 appearances in the main team, as they saw his promise in League Two.
