The wide receiver is a free agent in the offseason and was drafted by Tom Telesco…
While the Las Vegas Raiders received a reasonable return from the New York Jets in the Davante Adams trade, there is no doubting that the Raiders require more wide receiver talent without Adams in the lineup. To help minimise the situation, the front staff reportedly attempted to incorporate Mike Williams in the transaction.
Albert Breer of Sports Illustrated recently spoke on “The Rich Eisen Show” to examine Williams’ market, since the Jets’ wide receiver has been the focus of trade rumours since Adams arrived in town. “I can give you this small nugget about [Williams]. The Raiders tried to get the Jets to include him in the trade for Davante Adams, but the Jets declined,” Breer added.
This season, Williams had 11 catches for 160 yards and no touchdowns as of Week 9. However, he had two 1,000-yard seasons, nearly 5,000 yards, and 31 touchdowns in eight seasons with the Los Angeles Chargers. Also, Las Vegas general manager Tom Telesco used a first-round pick on the Clemson wideout in 2017.
While it appears like New York is unwilling to let Williams leave before next week’s trade deadline, Telesco’s pursuit of reuniting with his former draft pick is unlikely to end. Williams only signed a one-year contract with the Jets last offseason, so he is a free agent this spring.
Will the general manager still want to sign a 30-year-old who will turn 31 in October if the Raiders decide to rebuild this offseason? We’ll have to wait and see, but the offence still needs a wide receiver, and Telesco is certainly interested in getting Williams to Las Vegas.
