Everton have injury issues ahead of their Premier League fixture against Southampton.
Harrison Armstrong is anticipated to be on Everton’s bench against Southampton.
Due to the Toffees’ continuous injury issues, the 17-year-old will most certainly be called up for Premier League duty at St Mary’s on Saturday. Sean Dyche’s side travels to the south coast hoping to extend their unbeaten run to six games. However, with James Garner (back) and Tim Iroegbunam (foot) out for an extended period of time, Everton’s midfield choices will be severely limited.
Dyche also confirmed in his pre-match press conference that Abdoulaye Doucoure suffered a knock in the lead-up to the Southampton game. Regardless of whether Doucoure is available, Armstrong will be participating. The highly rated teenager appeared in all but one Premier League game this season, making his debut in a 4-0 loss to Tottenham. He then made his complete Everton debut in the Carabao Cup, losing to Southampton on penalties.
Armstrong’s appearances with the Blues under-21s have been restricted due to fitness issues. However, he demonstrated his abilities earlier this week by scoring for Paul Tait’s side in a 2-1 EFL Trophy loss to League Two club Accrington Stanley.
Armando Broja and Youssef Chermiti (both feet) are still not ready to play, while Dwight McNeil may miss out versus Southampton. The attacker was hauled out in the dying moments of Everton’s 1-1 draw with Fulham last week and had not trained before Dyche’s pre-match press conference on Thursday. If McNeil is unable to play, Dyche may reintroduce Roman Dixon into the first-team lineup.
The 19-year-old right-back spent the entire pre-season with Dyche’s squad and made his full debut at Tottenham when Ashley Young, Seamus Coleman, and Nathan Patterson were all unavailable. Dixon also represented the under-21s against Accrington. Dyche may also explore having two goalkeepers on his bench, Joao Virginia and Asmir Begovic.
