Ipswich Town contractors rescued from platform
Firefighters were rushed to Ipswich Town’s premises and managed to rescue three contractors who were working on the stadium.
After a scissor lift incident, crews were summoned to Portman Road at approximately 11:30 BST.
The lift was depicted at an angle in the air.
The workmen were safely taken down after becoming stuck around 15 meters (approximately 50 feet) in the air, according to Alex Smith, station manager for the Suffolk Fire and Rescue Service.
“All three [workers] were rescued and brought down to ground level where they were checked over by our ambulance colleagues,” he stated.
“Due to the dangerous structure, we are now still on the scene.
“We’re just waiting for some specialist advice before we bring the scissor lift back down to ground level before we leave the scene.”
According to Mr. Smith, someone “reacted very promptly” and used a forklift to support the lift and ensure the safety of the personnel.
The club’s spokesperson said there were no injuries and the incident was dealt with in about 15 minutes.
“We are aware of a third-party contractor’s scissor being involved in an incident at Portman Road,” the spokesperson said.
“On-site workers first helped until fire and rescue arrived shortly after.”
“Everyone was soon taken down to safety and there are no reported injuries.”
In anticipation of the forthcoming Premier League season, the stadium is now undergoing renovations.
After 22 years out of the top division, Ipswich is back, and on Saturday, Liverpool will visit Portman Road.
Safe standing zones, more space at the away end, and renovations to the Sir Alf Ramsey stand are just a few of the more than 100 current stadium improvement projects.
