Michael Stewart baffled by recent Dujon Sterling developments at Rangers – ‘Just don’t get it’
Michael Stewart has been perplexed by what has transpired to Dujon Sterling at Rangers so far this season.
The Englishman, who just signed a new deal earlier this season, has not started a Premiership game since the Gers’ 3-0 loss to Celtic, and he only played five minutes in the Gers’ 2-1 victory over St Mirren last time out.
Although the 25-year-old has always battled to maintain a stable spot at Ibrox, Premier Sports commentator Stewart can’t understand why Philippe Clement hasn’t used him more this season.
In an interview with The Scottish Football Social Club on October 28, the speaker expressed confusion over Sterling’s situation.
“Looking back at last season, he was a must-play starter wherever on the park. One of the first names on the page, wherever it was, you just had to make room for him.
“Now, with all the problems the Rangers are having, he’s not getting a sniff anyplace. I just don’t get it.”
What happened to Rangers star Dujon Sterling at Ibrox under Philippe Clement?
It’s strange that a guy who was essentially a guaranteed starter last year is now struggling to earn a look under Clement this season.
Sterling was one of Clement’s greatest players during his first season at Ibrox, impressing fans and analysts alike with his flexibility and willingness to play in a variety of roles.
Currently, he does not look to be in the starting lineup, as Neraysho Kasanwirjo took over as right-back when James Tavernier rested against St Mirren.
Unless anything has transpired behind the scenes that supporters aren’t aware of, there doesn’t appear to be any clear explanation why Clement has ceased starting Sterling, especially given his defence’s inconsistent performance this season.
