Cadent urgent repair to gas pipe in Burnley’s Royle Road taking longer than expected

Repairing a gas pipe in the heart of Burnley is taking longer than anticipated.

The previous weekend, Cadent personnel started working to find the cause of a gas odor beneath Royle Road, close to the Active Way roundabout.

Digging down to a pipe that runs beneath this intersection revealed the extent of the necessary repairs, which would take longer than anticipated.

It was necessary to dig two sizable excavations, each about five meters broad and two meters deep.

This had an effect on Active Way itself and necessitated closing one lane of Royle Road (in the direction leading to the Active Way roundabout). Congestion is a result of the ongoing work.

The impact on Active Way was eliminated this weekend as a result of the work finished this week.

This week will see the completion of the last repairs under Royle Road. By the end of this week, the engineers want to get the road reopened if all goes according to plan.

“We appreciate that this work is disruptive, but it is necessary to keep everyone safe and to keep gas flowing to local homes and other buildings in the area. We thank everyone for their patience and understanding,” a Cadent spokeswoman said.
