EXCLUSIVE; Hibs goal hero in stark derby admission as late Hearts strike transforms Easter Road mood.
Swansea loanee’s moment of triumph cut short by another collapse
The draw felt like a loss. That’s how Mykola Kuharevich described this afternoon’s frenzied, vicious, and error-filled first Edinburgh Derby of the season at Easter Road. And few Hibs fans would dispute with the big man’s judgment.
The Ukrainian striker, who scored what should have been the winner just five minutes after coming off the bench to replace a tired and frustrated Dwight Gayle on the hour mark of today’s high-noon clash, held his head in his hands as James Wilson snatched a late equaliser from a long throw-in that the Hibs defence failed to clear. David Gray’s team is grown accustomed to squandering game-winning scores late. One they’d like to shatter.
“It feels like we lost the game because we conceded such a late goal,” stated the Swansea loan player. “We were so close to winning.” But we have to improve in the last stages of the game. We will work on it.
“I’m not sure what’s to blame. We must stay focused till the final second of the game. I know it’s difficult, and we get fatigued, but we have to focus until the final second.
“A turning point? It is difficult since things change so quickly. Get a win, then another win, and it will disappear. We absolutely believe this.
“We need to work on finishing and analyzing all of the small details.” It is significant since we failed to meet our objectives. But we have to see it, and everyone must accept responsibility for these situations.”
Insisting that current Hibs team does not deserve to be at the bottom of the Scottish Premiership, Kuharevich said: “One hundred percent. We all know it. We need to fix it as soon as possible because we know we’re better than that.
“It’s always an incredible feeling to score in a derby with a packed stadium. It is incredible. I was ecstatic in the moment.
“But it’s unfortunate to lose a goal in the final minutes, exactly like the previous game, and not win three points. You have to come on and have an impact on the game.”
