Crysencio Summerville explains why he left Leeds United.

Crysencio Summerville joined West Ham United during the summer transfer window. Now, more details are emerging about what led the Leeds United star to join the Hammers despite other Premier League clubs being keen.

The Dutch star joined West Ham for a whopping £25 million. Summerville had an excellent season with Leeds in 2023-24, scoring 19 goals and assisting nine times, earning him the PFA Championship Player of the Season accolade.

“I’m very happy, and I can’t wait to get started,” Summerville said in August, after joining West Ham. “It’s the perfect next step in my career. West Ham United is a massive club with a lot of ambition and talented players, so I’m very eager to come here and get started.

“I always try to follow my heart, and I felt the impression that this was the perfect place for me to continue developing as a player and maximizing my potential.

“There is a lot of history here, and the team has done exceptionally well in the Premier League and Europe in recent years. I chatted with the Head Coach, and he convinced me that I could make a difference and contribute to success in the upcoming season.”

Furthermore, he was selected Leeds United’s Player of the Season. Leeds United also lost.

Georginio Rutter joins Brighton after the Seagulls activated the Frenchman’s £40 million release clause. So the Whites’ offensive was diminished this summer.
The latest reason for Crysencio Summerville’s leaving has emerged.

The Athletic reported on Tuesday that West Ham United’s sales pitch was the deciding factor in the former Leeds United star’s decision to turn down offers from Chelsea and Liverpool.

Securing playing time was critical for Summerville, especially as neither he nor the other players were regarded positively due to the number of wingers in their respective squads. This is where the Hammers intervened with their words to entice the player.

“Their new head coach Julen Lopetegui assured Summerville, who eventually signed from Leeds United for £25million ($32m), of game time,” according to The Athletic.

“John Heitinga, West Ham’s former assistant first-team coach, also helped convince him to join the east Londoners and, as mentioned previously, technical director Tim Steidten challenged him to become a success, like the club’s 2023 summer signings Edson Alvarez and Mohammed Kudus have done.”
