Danny Rohl’s stunned verdict on Svante Ingelsson chance for Sheffield Wednesday vs Swansea City

Danny Rohl, the manager of Sheffield Wednesday, was not overly pleased with how his team finished against Swansea City.

In a match where the Owls could have easily won all three points, Sheffield Wednesday played out a 0-0 draw with Swansea City on Tuesday night.

Wednesday undoubtedly had the better sight of goal, even though the Swans had their opportunities as well, including one close-range attempt that required a great save from James Beadle in the first half.

Wednesday had nine shots compared to Swansea’s 10. The Owls didn’t record a single shot on goal though, with Svante Ingelsson missing three shot attempts which was more than any player on the pitch.

Sheffield Wednesday fans were critical of Ingelsson after the game. The Swede started in the left attacking midfield role but failed to impress, having not lived up to the hype since his impressive Sheffield Wednesday debut against Plymouth on the opening day.

Danny Rohl left stunned as Svante Ingelsson misses glorious opportunity

In the first half, Djeidi Gassama pushed the ball across the box and found Ingelsson with time and space, giving Ingelsson maybe the finest opportunity of the match.

To sum up his and Sheffield Wednesday’s evening, the 26-year-old shot wide.

Rohl seemed to be suppressing his annoyance at the performance and the dearth of shots on goal when he spoke to the media following the game.

Rohl responded, “Both,” when asked which irritated him more: the opportunity for Ingelsson or the fact that many crosses entered the box, frequently finding no one.

“When you ask me about Svante’s opportunity, I say that it’s a huge area, 11 meters, and it goes left and right instead of hitting the target.

“In the second half, right after the kickoff, two players are merely observing rather than actively trying to score. There is a good crossed ball and a second post.”

The damning Sheffield Wednesday stats against Swansea City

Even though they played at Hillsborough, the Owls only had 36% of the ball and only had nine shots as opposed to the Swans’ ten, albeit Swansea did have one shot on goal.

In the game, Wednesday also had nine corners, but none of them were converted.

Ultimately, Wednesday finished with 297 passes compared to Swansea’s 496, and their expected goals were only 0.53.

The Owls are currently in 17th place in the Championship table ahead of their long-distance trip to Portsmouth on Friday night, which Sheffield Wednesday supporters have sold out.

Pompey has only won one league game this season and is now in last position with eight points.
