A ‘larger and brighter’ light switch-on ceremony has been announced, marking the start of the Christmas countdown.
According to a statement from Ipswich Borough Council, this year’s Christmas lights will be turned on in the Cornhill neighbourhood of Ipswich from 4 to 7.30 p.m. on Sunday, November 17.
Suffolk Sound, the official media partners for the event, will oversee the festivities. Mark Ashton, the chairman and CEO of Ipswich Town Football Club, and defender Leif Davis will also be in attendance.
Additionally, there will be more live musical entertainment throughout the weekend, including a special performance by the cast of the Jack and the Beanstalk pantomime at the Ipswich Regent Theatre starting at 6:15 p.m.
Elango Elavalaka, the mayor of Ipswich, will turn on the Christmas lights at 6:45 p.m.n.
“The Christmas lights switch-on is always a magical time for Ipswich, and we’re thrilled to welcome the community back for this year’s celebration,” says Councillor Jane Riley, who has the responsibility for culture and consumers for the Ipswich Borough Council.
“It’s a wonderful opportunity to come together, celebrate our town, and light up the festive season with joy and excitement for all ages.”
More information will be released soon. Additionally, on Sunday, December 1 from 6 to 9 p.m., there will be a special Blue Badge drive-through event.
