SWANSEA CITY SUPPORTERS’ TRUST HONOUR SWANS LEGENDS WITH NEW PROJECT

Ivor and Len Allchurch, two Swans legends, were recently recognised with a mural near their Plasmarl upbringing by the Swansea City Supporters’ Trust and the Former Players’ Association.

In order to honour the accomplishments of past players who played for Swansea City and Wales, the Trust started a new project earlier this year.

The Trust Heritage group started the project by asking Open Reach for permission to paint pictures of brothers Ivor and Len Allchurch on their equipment box on Cwm Level Road.

Ivor, who was the elder of the two brothers was born on October 16 1929, with Len following on September 12 1933.

They started playing football on the fields at Cwm Level Park and on the streets and playgrounds of Plasmarl, where they came from a big family of seven siblings and a stepbrother.

They are rightfully recognised as some of Swansea City’s best players and mainstays, and they went on to have outstanding careers for both club and country.

In order to learn more about the famous brothers, students from Plasmarl Primary School were invited to the unveiling.

More Swans luminaries will be honoured in the upcoming months, according to current plans.

“I’m extremely proud and privileged that the Swans Trust has honoured my husband and my sister’s husband Len with this wonderful piece of artwork,” said Esme Allchurch, the widow of Ivor Allchurch and honorary president of the FPA.

“I’m a Plasmarl girl and we all went to Plasmarl Primary School, so to have this piece of art near the school is lovely, and brilliant for kids at the school now to see.”
