OSP said officers found the involved man and woman, and determined the man had outstanding warrants for his arrest. The couple also “appeared to be associated” with a stolen car in the motel parking lot, according to OSP.
Just after 1 p.m., police said they contacted the man in the motel room and he was “noncompliant.” Police also said the man had two guns in his waistband, “which he reached for,” police said. Officers said they shot the man at that point.
According to OSP, police gave the man first aid at the scene and he was taken to a local hospital where he was declared dead.
Oregon State Police is leading the investigation into the deadly shooting, with help from the Newport Police Department, the Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office, Lincoln City Police Department, the Lincoln County District Attorney’s Office and the Lincoln County Medical Examiner’s Office.
