McKenna must drop Ipswich man who made only 12 passes

The 4-1 loss to West Ham United away from home was a sobering watch, but that was reserved for the Tractor Boys faithful that made the trip to the London Stadium. This more recent 2-0 loss to Everton, however, was the main viewing that all home sections of Ipswich’s ground had to endure, as a number of under performers struggled to ever get going for Kielan McKenna’s men against Sean Dyche’s victorious Toffees. Ipswich Town supporters will be beginning to worry about their side’s lowly standing in the Premier League, with back-to-back abject displays souring the air at Portman Road.

Ipswich underperformers vs Everton

The Tractor Boys put up a lackluster performance; they simply need to win somewhere in the league to get their confidence up after failing to win in the Premier League for the past eight games.

Despite having 13 attempts on Jordan Pickford’s goal, the hosts were unable to score because the Ipswich defense played a poor game.

In the first goal, Iliman Ndiaye scored after Jack Harrison crossed the ball into the box and Ipswich failed to stop the former Sheffield United player. In the second goal, Michael Keane made it 2-0 after a corner was not properly cleared away, allowing the Everton number five to score with confidence past Arijanet Murić.

For McKenna’s team, Dara O’Shea was glaringly ineffective in forcing an early advantage in the back, winning only one duel entire afternoon. In addition, he misdirected a ball in the second half that almost allowed Ndiaye to get a brace.

Jack-Clarke-Ipswich

Away from Ipswich’s defensive shortcomings, Jack Clarke was wasteful offensively. Early in the match, the former Sunderland player blasted an effort over the bar that, had it gone in, could have altered the outcome of the match.

It was a frustrating afternoon to be connected with the Tractor Boys, but in the first half of the match, he did win his side a penalty when Dwight McNeil tangled with him in the box thanks to his deft footwork. However, the judgment was reversed by VAR.

Burns’ performance vs Everton

Apart from his offensive contributions, Burns’s inability to clear the ball away prior to Ndiaye’s opening goal set up the Toffees for victory; the ball bounced before the Senegalese attacker scored past Muric. Additionally, the 29-year-old winger had fewer touches on the field than the former Manchester City player. Burns’ day at work went badly, as he registered zero accurate crosses and zero accurate long balls, failed to win a single duel out of four attempts, and could only complete 12 accurate passes. Burns was grateful to be substituted off of the game shortly after the hour mark to cap off his appalling performance.

Wes-Burns-Ipswich

The 29-year-old scored on the last day of the Championship season to give his team automatic promotion, and he did play a significant part in Ipswich’s incredible rise to prominence. However, freshers like summer recruit Chiedozie Ogbene might be a better fit in his place at this point.

In order to prevent more and more losses from being recorded, McKenna may even decide to switch up his starting lineup and choose to start Omari Hutchinson down this wing once more.
