THREE GOALS AND THREE POINTS FOR LUTON IN WIN OVER LOCAL RIVALS WATFORD

THREE GOALS AND THREE POINTS FOR LUTON IN WIN OVER LOCAL RIVALS WATFORD.

Luton Town won 3-0 against local rivals Watford. The Hatters’ first win in four games was a comprehensive one as they defeated the Hornets at Kenilworth Road, with Jordan Clark, Carlton Morris, and Jacob Brown scoring. The victory sees Luton jump a few places up the league table and see off the job against a Watford team that could’ve moved into the automatic promotion places with a win.

Luton almost gave Watford the lead in bizarre circumstances after only two minutes. Tom Holmes, a defender, attempted to send the ball from a long distance back to Thomas Kaminski, but his overhit pass sailed over Kaminski’s head and nearly missed the top corner of his own net. Having survived that, Luton raised the tempo, and they came near when Reece Burke saw a shot stopped by Daniel Bachmann. Luton scored the game’s first goal in the 11th minute. An Alfie Doughty corner was half-cleared to Holmes, whose shot impacted Clark, wrong-footing Bachmann and into the net.

Watford struggled to respond, with the first half being a tense and hectic affair as both sides struggled to get going, but Luton appeared to be the more likely of the two to score. Within two minutes of the resumption, Luton had made it 2-0. Again, a corner unlocked the Watford defence, with a Doughty corner reaching Morris in the six-yard box and the striker hitting the ball into the net. Kaminski’s first notable save occurred shortly thereafter, as he made a leaping stop to keep Tom Dele-Bashiru out.

While Luton were forced to withdraw players due to injuries, they still had moments, including a close call when Bachmann denied Brown. But Luton would score 3-0 in second-half stoppage time, finishing off a fantastic day for Luton fans. A through-pass from custodian Kaminski unleashed Brown down the left flank, where he was able to dart before cutting inside and putting in a great low shot to secure the win for the home team. Luton will look to build on their midweek victory as they host early leaders Sunderland at Kenilworth Road.
