Edwards left bursting with pride as his Luton players show their mettle against Watford
Rob Edwards, the manager of Luton, praised each and every one of his players for demonstrating to Watford how much their
performance meant to them, as they defeated the archrivals 3-0 at Kenilworth Road this afternoon.
With just one home victory this season and coming off of their worst performance of the year—a 2-0 loss at Sheffield United prior to
the international break—the Hatters fans, who filled Kenilworth Road for the match against a team that has struggled to travel to
Bedfordshire in recent years and has also lost their last four away from home, arrived with some trepidation.
Speaking afterwards, Edwards, who has now masterminded Town to two victories over a team he once managed for just 11 games
we’ve had another one today. I’m really pleased for the supporters because I know how much it means for them.
“It’s been a big two weeks and we knew we had to respond after the disappointment of our last game. The lads have done that every
day in the two weeks and then they’ve gone and shown it today as well and that’s when it matters. It’s no good just talking about it,
you’ve got to go and show it. And they did it. It looked like today it mattered to us. It looked like they cared. It looked like they
understood the magnitude of the game. We’re really, really proud of them.
Edwards went on, “At that point, we earned our own luck.” We have been menacing with our delivery and the regions we attacked.
Although we haven’t scored from corners this season, we have been threatening with them and always get a lot because we are a
crossing team. It was wonderful to watch a few of them enter today. It was fantastic to lead 2-0 early in the second half, but any goal is
good on a day like this. It was then crucial to make an effort to keep the level at that point.
The way we currently have to handle it is absurd. It’s difficult, and we will have to cope with it once more on Wednesday (against
Sunderland). However, it was amazing that we were able to keep a clean sheet today despite all of the injuries and other issues we
faced.
