Southampton 2-3 Leicester City: Highlights, man of the match, stats as Saints humiliated in relegation six-pointer

In their 3-2 loss to Leicester City on Saturday afternoon at St Mary’s, Russell Martin’s Southampton team gave up a two-goal lead.

The home team earned a quick free kick, moved the ball wide to Ryan Manning, who squared over for Cameron Archer to finish from

close range, and Archer scored in the eighth minute.

Kyle Walker-Peters’ excellent play on the left flank, where he drove into the area and passed across goal to Joe Aribo for a simple

finish, allowed Southampton to double their advantage in the 28th minute.

After a low cross from Abdul Fatawu’s right of the six-yard box ricocheted off of Facundo Buonanotte and into the net in the 65th

minute, Foxes manager Steve Cooper watched his team cut their lead in half. Less than ten minutes later, Jamie Vardy equalised from

the penalty spot.

Harry Winks sent a pass from a corner to the edge of the box for Jordan Ayew to score the game’s winning goal in the eighth minute of

second-half stoppage time. With eight games played, Leicester is now in 13th place with nine points.

Southampton, on the other hand, has lost all eight of its games, is currently in bottom position in the Premier League with only one

point, and has given up 18 goals, which is the second-highest amount in the

Walker-Peters should also get credit for Southampton’s opening goal because he drove the ball from well inside his own half into

Leicester’s penalty area and then passed it to Manning, who squared the ball to Archer.

Given that multiple players linked up on the left flank to create a one-on-one between Walker-Peters and Justin, who made it far too

easy for his opponent to drive into the box, manager Martin may be especially happy with his team’s second goal..

It appeared as though Southampton would cling on for a draw even after Vardy converted a penalty with 25 minutes remaining, but

Ayew managed to get free on the edge of the box and head home Winks’ delivery from a corner deep into stoppage time in the second half.
