According to sources, Sunderland’s former Leeds United player would likely miss the entire 2024–25 season due to an injury.

The Sunderland player is reportedly expected to miss the entire current campaign.

It has been reported that Niall Huggins may miss the entire 2024–25 season.

After suffering a severe knee injury in a December match against Coventry City, the 23-year-old is currently out. The defender had made 18 appearances in the Championship previous season before his campaign was cut short, solidifying his place in the Black Cats’ starting lineup before that setback.

Huggins has signed a new contract at the Stadium of Light, despite the fact that he is still far from fully recovered. With the possibility of an additional year, his time on Wearside will now end in the summer of 2026.

However, because of his persistent injury issues, Huggins might not play this season. Nick Barnes gave an update on the Total Sport program on BBC Radio Newcastle. “Niall Huggins, of course, has signed a new contract on the back of the news,” he stated.

By the way, it appears that Huggins might miss the entire season.Given how serious the injury was, the medical staff is definitely considering it right now. As a result, we may not see Niall Huggins until the beginning of the following season.

Sunderland sporting director Kristjaan Speakman commented on the decision to give the Wales youth international a lengthier contract: “Niall suffered a serious injury shortly after he made a name for himself in the team, but his response has been excellent. As he continues his rehabilitation, he keeps working incredibly hard to place himself in a good position. This extension clears up any confusion over his status for next summer and enables us to concentrate on helping him in the upcoming days, weeks, and months.

“I’ve had a difficult year, so I appreciate the club supporting me and seeing my potential,” Huggins continued. It gives me great pleasure to sign this contract, and I appreciate the ongoing help that my teammates, employees, and fans provide. Right now, I’m concentrating on working as hard as I can to return to the level I know I can achieve.

In 2021, Sunderland acquired Huggins from Leeds United. The full-back has since made 28 senior appearances for the Black Cats, helping to assist on two goals and scoring one himself. Huggins was previously expected to be fully recovered and ready for selection in the upcoming year, but that now appears to be seriously doubtful.
