A successful performance for Papua New Guinea this autumn could increase interest in Lachlan Lam’s services once more. Lam is allegedly “open” to returning to the NRL.

Ever since joining Leigh more than two years ago, Lam has been frequently associated with a return to the NRL. He has become one of the Super League’s most impressive half-backs during that time.

Earlier this year, he was strangely connected to a move to Hull FC, but he committed to the Leopards for 2025. However, Code Sports has recently implied that Lam may once more be on NRL clubs’ radars.

Earlier this year, Lam was reportedly courted by the Canterbury Bulldogs and Gold Coast Titans, and now that he will be in the spotlight in Australia as a representative of the Kumuls, he may be in the shop window once more.

Lam was included in a list of athletes hoping to draw in teams with their exploits at the Pacific Championships. The report stated that Lam “has one year left on his deal with the Leigh Leopards but is open to making a return to the NRL.”

“Lam has performed exceptionally well in England, leading Leigh to successive finals series in the last two seasons and promotion into the Super League in 2022.

“A strong performance over the next few weeks will put Lam in the box set to secure an NRL home coming in a market where elite halves are a rare commodity.”

Naturally, there is no indication that Leigh would consider allowing Lam leave at a time when they appear to be headed for the loss of yet another important spine player. The Leopards would suffer greatly if Lam were to go, as Matt Moylan is scheduled to retire and head back to Australia at the end of the current campaign.

However, it appears Lam will almost certainly be actively watched by clubs when he plays for Papua New Guinea in the upcoming weeks.
