“It touched me” – Player loves his Celtic chant, wants his children to experience atmosphere

The winger first joined Celtic on loan from Benfica in September 2021, when Brendan Rodgers’ predecessor, Ange Postecoglou, was in charge. The following year, they extended his stay permanently.

Jota appeared in 83 games for Celtic across all competitions, scoring 28 goals and assisting 26 times. In 2023, he won the Scottish League Cup twice, the Scottish Cup once, and the title.

In July 2023, the 25-year-old left the Scottish club to join Al-Ittihad for €30 million. He returned to Europe a year later, signing with Ligue 1 on the summer transfer deadline.

Jota gave an interview to a French newspaper that has a section dedicated to his time at Celtic.The Portuguese went on to explain why his total experience in Glasgow, under Postecoglou’s directives, remains memorable for him.

“It’s difficult to explain in words,” Jota stated.

“You had to be in Glasgow at that time to feel it: playing at Celtic Park, feeling the love of the fans, and having the opportunity to be coached by an incredible coach [Postecoglou] in a group where everything turned out well…”You must thank everyone for what occurred there.

“One day, I hope to be able to show my children what it was like and all the love I received. I’ll remember this for the rest of my life.”

The attacker was popular among Celtic fans, who even created the chant ‘Jota on the wing’. He was clearly happy with the love and affection exhibited by the Scottish fans.

“It touched me because I wasn’t expecting it. “When they started singing, it was a very special moment,” he said.
