Rodgers gets massive injury boost ahead of critical fixtures

Cameron Carter-Vickers could make a comeback for Celtic when they play Aberdeen tomorrow.

Over the past 18 months, the defender has intermittently endured ailments; his most recent outing was on September 18, during the Champions League victory over Slovan Bratislava.

Auston Trusty made his debut replacing Carter-Vickers for the last five minutes of that match and has started the four matches since.

The former Spurs defender has been dealing with a toe injury, but Carter-Vickers seems to be nearing the conclusion of his recovery at Lennoxtown. Trusty was abroad on international duty for the USA, playing for the last ten minutes of the team’s loss against Mexico.

Late Thursday night, according to the Daily Record:

In front of Celtic’s matchup with Aberdeen at the top of the table, Cameron Carter-Vickers has resumed training.

Brendan Rodgers and his team will be greatly encouraged to see the important defender back on the field for Saturday’s game between the top two teams.

After seven league games, both Celtic and Aberdeen have won, with the Hoops leading by a slim margin on goal differential.

The champions want to win at home to put an end to Jimmy Thelin’s incredible run and take the lead in the Premiership.

With Celtic traveling to Atalanta for a crucial Champions League match the following week, Rodgers must now choose how much playing time to allocate to him. Due to a toe ailment, the American international has been sidelined since last month.

The 26-year-old hasn’t played since hobbling out of the first-round European victory over Slovan Bratislava in the late stages. Since Carter-Vickers has been sidelined due to injury, Aaron Trusty has entered and taken Liam Scales’ place.

Between their meeting against Aberdeen tomorrow and their trip to Kilmarnock on November 10th, Celtic will play seven games.

Much more than 11 players will be needed to complete that schedule, but like Ange Postecoglou, Aaron Rodgers appears hesitant to switch up or rotate his center defenders.

Given Carter-Vickers’ recent injury concerns, it’s likely that Trusty will play a big role in Celtic’s three upcoming contests over the course of the next four weeks.

This morning, Lennoxtown will provide coverage of the training ground. During his midday media conference, Brendan Rodgers is anticipated to field questions over the injuries sustained by Greg Taylor and Carter-Vickers.
