Morecambe look to emulate Trophy wins in the league

Derek Adams agrees that Morecambe needs to start winning in the league as they look to secure three points tomorrow.

With ten games played, the only team without a win in the division, the Shrimps were relegated to the bottom of League Two following their defeat against Accrington Stanley last weekend.

They visit a third-place Barrow AFC club on Saturday, one of four teams tied for first place in the standings.

Former Shrimps Chris Stokes and Ged Garner are in the opposing team’s camp as Morecambe looks to build on their victory over Nottingham Forest’s U21s on Tuesday in the Bristol Street Motors Trophy.

After achieving two victories in the Trophy this season to go to the knockout stages, Morecambe’s current goal is to replicate those outcomes in the league.

“This league is ever so tight,” Adams remarked. Gaining victories is crucial since they can help you move up the table.

“We know we haven’t had enough wins in that time, but we’ve only lost twice in eight games.”

Barrow’s form at Holker Street has been the foundation of their promising start under new head coach Stephen Clemence.

Having taken charge over the summer, the former Gillingham boss has guided them to 13 points from 15 at home; the division’s best record so far.

They go into tomorrow on the back of a Trophy defeat on Tuesday, when a much-changed line-up lost at Fleetwood Town

Regarding their opponent’s home results, Adams remarked, “We understand that but we’re looking forward to going to Barrow.”

The pitch is in excellent shape, which is beneficial, and we just had a successful midweek performance.

“They have made some personnel and formation changes from the previous season, but we still know a lot of their players.”

“They have a good pool of players to choose from, but the ones that were absent last Saturday played the other night.”

On the other hand, with Kayden Harrack out on international duty and Jordan Slew and Rhys Williams limping off on Tuesday, Adams is counting the players at his disposal.

Despite being ineligible for the Forest match due to his participation in the Trophy for parent club Salford City, Marcus Dackers is back in the running.

“We’ll see how they (Slew and Williams) are; we might have one player back on Saturday,” Adams stated.
