Sheffield Wednesday receive recruitment boost as 2024 targets prevail
Sheffield Wednesday has been associated with a number of names, some more aspirational than others, who never made the journey to Hillsborough.
Many of them have continued to be active in 2024; one of them is Duncan McGuire, who was linked to Sheffield Wednesday again in the summer after the team attempted to sign him on deadline day in January.
He has 10 goals in 26 games thus far in the 2024 MLS season. However, he’s not showing up to be as active as Daniel Gazdag.
Gazdag was also linked to Sheffield Wednesday during the most recent January transfer window. Still, the Hungarian international plays with Philadelphia Union in the Major League Soccer (MLS), where he has scored an incredible 17 goals, matching Lionel Messi’s record from Inter Miami in 2024.
Mark O’Mahony of Brighton is another striker who Rohl and Beadell saw this summer.
O’Mahony has now joined Portsmouth, but it was previously stated that Sheffield Wednesday was hopeful of signing him on a loan.
In four Championship appearances for Pompey this season, the Ireland U21 international has scored twice.
Sheffield Wednesday’s January transfer plans
There have been little tidings about potential signings prior to January. Who might quit has been the main concern.
While Callum Paterson is poised to leave Sheffield Wednesday before his contract expires at the end of the current campaign, there are worries that Shea Charles might be called up by Southampton.
But according to Rohl, he already has preparations for the January transfer window and the summer transfer window of 2025.
Even if the next window is a little ways off, he stated last month that he already knew exactly what needed to be done in the next two windows.
