Ange gets honest over Tottenham demands in brutal Celtic contrast as Premier League ‘arrogance’ called out

The Australian argues that the scrutiny at Spurs is no harsher than Parkhead simply because of the league he is now managing in.

Ange Postecoglou has identified the primary difference between the challenge he had at Celtic and what he faces at Tottenham, while criticizing the “arrogance and pretentiousness of the English Premier League.”

The Australian is in his second season at Spurs, and some believe he has made a rod for his own back by claiming he “always wins something” during his second season with clubs. Before moving to North London, he led the Hoops to an undefeated domestic season in 2022/23. After guiding Tottenham to fifth place last season, many are eager to see if Postecoglou can win a long-awaited trophy.

When asked if this job is the most challenging assignment he’s encountered given the attention on the Premier League, Postecoglou provided a home truth about the self-proclaimed “best league in the world” as he highlighted how the demands at Celtic different from those imposed on him south of the border.

“There’s a little bit of pretentiousness and arrogance about people in the Premier League thinking they’re in a special place,” according to Optus Sport. “But it is still football. “The scrutiny is not a challenge for me.”

 

“The club (Spurs) undoubtedly has unique obstacles. Are they more difficult than the others? I do not know. When I was at Celtic, people remarked, ‘Well, okay, but Celtic are expected to win’. I said, ‘Yeah, that’s true; you’re expected to win.

“You lose one game, and it’s a major issue for you. Not many people can deal with that. So it’s definitely a different challenge [at Tottenham]. But I understand why people would say, “No, it’s because of your current level and the scrutiny that you’re not having success.”

“I do not believe that. Well, I still feel we will succeed. But there’s nothing I’m facing here that I believe is insurmountable.
