Confirmed: Manager wants Leeds sensation before this weekend, he’s already there

Adam Hinshelwood has announced that York City hopes to sign Luca Thomas on loan from Leeds United soon.

The National League club’s manager has been keeping an eye on the 20-year-old forward since the Whites permitted him to practice with the Minstermen, and he wants him in before their game against Ebbsfleet United this weekend.

According to The Press in York on 16 October a long-term injury to their captain Lenell John-Lewis has left York City short, and increased the urgency to land a replacement from Leeds.

Hinshelwood said, via The Press: “Leeds have let him train with us for the last few days, so we can cast an eye over him, and we have done that.

“We’ve been impressed with what we have seen, so it’s down to us to have a chat with Tony [McMahon, Director of Football] and then speak to Leeds and see what is best.

“We’ve been really encouraged by what we have seen from him and we’re hoping that we will be able to do something there.

“We’re hoping, he’s been in for a few days and have liked what we have seen so far, so we will sit down with Tony tomorrow and speak to Leeds to see what we can try and arrange.”

Luca Thomas set for Leeds United exit to York City

It makes little sense for Leeds United to allow Thomas to practice with York City before withdrawing from the loan deal.

If there is immediate game time available, and he is not being dropped from Hinshelwood’s squad, it appears to be in everyone’s best interests to sign a contract as soon as possible.

According to the Yorkshire Evening Post on September 18, the Whites forward signed a season-long contract extension with the club over the summer before participating in Daniel Farke’s preseason training with the first team.

But if Thorp Arch’s aim is to give him some senior experience first before pushing him up the pyramid for further development, there is no time to waste.

He appears to have outgrown Premier League 2 football if he is scoring in every game, so if he wants a future at Elland Road, he must take the next stages.

There is definitely a significant gap between the National League and the Premier League, where Farke aims to have Leeds next season, so Thomas will have a lot to go through if he is to make it here.
