In spite of Tottenham Hotspur’s interest, Carlton Palmer thinks James Trafford should stay at Burnley past the January transfer window.
After Guglielmo Vicario’s injury, the London club is reportedly considering the 22-year-old as a possible option, according to Talksport.
The goalie will miss months instead of weeks due to an ankle injury that has already necessitated surgery.
This has been a major setback for Ange Postecoglou’s team, who will have to replace him with Fraser Forster.
Because of the 36-year-old’s prior subpar performance for Spurs, there has been conjecture that a winter transfer could be pursued to better fill Vicario’s void.

Palmer expects Trafford to stay with the Championship team, but he is not shocked by the resurgence of rumours regarding his future at Turf Moor.
He has questioned why the young player would join a squad where, if Vicario is well again, he will eventually be cut.
He has been playing excellent football for the first team on a regular basis, so why would he join a club where he isn’t?He has estimated that persuading Burnley to cash in halfway through the season will cost between £30 million and £35 million.Will it play? “Obviously, they’ll demand a high price for him; they paid £19 million to sign him from Man City, so there’s no way he’s going to sell the 22-year-old without making a significant profit because he’s still a young player and will only get better,” he continued.
Thus, I don’t think Burnley will be able to move James during the January transfer window.
“Burnley has only allowed six goals this season and has the best defensive record in the league with 33 points, two points behind the division leaders.
“Unless they receive enormous sums of money, they will not permit him to quit the football team.
I still anticipate seeing him at Burnley this season, but I would have to pay them between £30 and £35 million to let him go.
And why would you want to go sit on the bench for a young guy who is the best at a football team? It doesn’t make sense.
James Trafford is best off staying at Burnley
Trafford would benefit temporarily from consistent Premier League playing time at a major club for a few months if he moved to Spurs.
However, as the Italian is among the finest in the division, Vicario will be placed back on the bench once he is healthy again.
At this point in his career, Trafford may believe he can compete for playing time with a healthy Vicario, but it is a significant risk, particularly now that he is settled at Burnley.
The best course of action is to stay there until the conclusion of the season and reevaluate his future in the summer, especially because the Clarets might have returned to the top division by then.
