Rangers ‘problems’ mooted ahead of January transfer window, troublesome position may be fixed

Rangers ‘Problems’ Mooted Ahead of January Transfer Window, Troublesome Position may be Fixed.

According to Mark Pirie, Rangers manager Philippe Clement will be looking to add a new left-back during the January transfer window.

The writer for the Daily Record [December 25] detailed the probable arrangements for the Gers’ transfer next month.

Rangers made significant summer purchases, but before the transfer window reopens next week, they have been connected to a number of players.

“Where should Philippe Clement begin?” stated Pirie. “Even though he faces immediate challenges due to Danilo and Kemar Roofe’s injuries, the Belgian may look elsewhere given the money his predecessor Michael Beale lavished on the front line in the summer.

“Clement will hope a left-back is in the back of Santa’s sleigh because Borna Barisic’s contract expires in the summer and Ridvan Yilmaz hasn’t been able to unseat the Croat since his arrival.”

Rangers will surely be looking to add a new left-back given Barisic’s contract predicament and, well, Yilmaz’s lack of talent when called upon.

However, it may well be that the Gers wait until the summer before bringing in a new player in that position, at which point it will be known for definite whether or not Barisic is staying on.

Of more immediate priority in January will be a holding midfielder, with a number of players in that area currently sidelined, or perhaps even a new attacker.

Given that the Light Blues are well in the running for the championship, it is critical that Clement, who has performed admirably since taking Michael Beale’s place, receives the support he needs in January.

Without a doubt, Clement already has a few targets in mind. Hopefully, in the upcoming weeks, one of those will be brought to Ibrox.

After all, if we can successfully pursue Celtic, the ideal January acquisition may turn out to be the deciding piece in the puzzle.
