Phil Parkinson offers injury update on Wrexham midfielder George Evans, it’s not good news

Wrexham were beaten 1-0 at Stevenage on Tuesday night and Phil Parkinson now has a new injury problem to handle.

Wrexham made a second lengthy journey in as many days, after facing Leyton Orient the previous weekend.
Phil Parkinson earned a point in the 0-0 draw but was defeated on Tuesday night against Stevenage.

Louis Thompson scored the game’s sole goal after 10 minutes, blasting a long-range effort past Arthur Okonkwo.

Wrexham dominated possession in pursuit of an equalizer but were unable to find the back of the net in a lackluster performance.

George Evans picks up injury in Wrexham defeat

Parkinson made a few changes from Saturday’s stalemate with Leyton Orient.

Dan Scarr replaced the injured Max Cleworth, and Sebastian Revan started at left wing back with James McClean moving infield.

Steven Fletcher started in attack, and George Evans replaced Andy Cannon in midfield.

Evans replaced Cannon at Leyton Orient on Saturday, and Parkinson hailed his performance afterwards.

The former Manchester City player was thus granted a starting spot against Stevenage, but things didn’t go as planned.

Evans was removed for Cannon just minutes after halftime after suffering another injury.

Wrexham boss Parkinson has now told BBC Sport that Evans ‘felt something shatter’ and that his likely absence is a ‘big blow’.

“It’s such a shame for George because he has worked hard to get back into the team,” Parkinson told reporters.

“He felt a crack. I’m not sure what it is, but it’s a big blow,” he said as Parkinson dealt with another issue.

Evans injury record at Wrexham

Wrexham signed Evans from Millwall in 2023, gaining a seasoned Championship midfielder in the process.

The 29-year-old initially signed a two-year contract but inked a new one in July, tying his career to the club until 2026.

Evans played a vital part last season, but was sidelined for about six weeks from February until the end of March due to an injury.

Evans suffered a groin injury in August, and the issues have persisted throughout the season.

This latest issue is yet another setback for Evans, and we can only hope to see him fit and firing again soon, as his experience and composure on the ball can be a valuable asset this season.
