EXCLUSIVE; Phil Parkinson emphasizes Wrexham’s problem once more, something he also noticed against Birmingham City.

Wrexham suffered only their second league defeat of the season on Tuesday night, falling 1-0 to Stevenage after a lackluster showing.

Wrexham’s second away double-header resulted in disappointing performances.

Wrexham drew 0-0 at Leyton Orient over the weekend, with O’s manager Richie Wellens believing his team should have won.

A point on the road was no big deal, but Wrexham drew another blank away at Stevenage on Tuesday night and couldn’t get a point this time.

Louis Thompson’s long-range effort in the first half beat Arthur Okonkwo and secured the three points for Stevenage.

Wrexham had lots of possession but couldn’t get through Stevenage’s excellent defensive line.

Wrexham simply aren’t clicking in the last third right now.

With Tuesday’s goalless draw against Stevenage, the club has only scored three goals in the past four games, all of which have come from set pieces.

Wrexham’s manager, Phil Parkinson, is concerned about their open play attacking.

Parkinson, speaking on Wrexham’s official YouTube channel, stated that the team did not respond appropriately after conceding.

Parkinson was pleased with how Wrexham started the game, but claimed that his players ‘wasted’ the whole of the first half.

Parkinson feels Wrexham were ‘jolted’ too often by surrendering goals and that his team has to improve its ability to cope with falling behind.

“First 10 minutes, I thought we passed the ball well and we carried on from the weekend, where we finished the game well and had more control,” according to Parkinson.

“The goal knocked us too hard. We kind of squandered the last 35 minutes of the first half because we didn’t work hard enough to play, and we subsequently finished second in the duels. Obviously, the goal provided them a great boost, but our game management around that time wasn’t ideal.

“We know goals elevate teams, but it simply knocked us too hard. You are going to concede goals; we have not surrendered many this season, but you will. When you do, we must respond more effectively than we did today.

“Goals, they always knock teams, we know that, but I just felt it jolted us too much tonight,” said the coach.

Deja vu for Parkinson

This is not the first time Parkinson has made similar statements.

After losing to Birmingham City in September, Parkinson criticized Wrexham’s attitude to conceding, stating that it was inadequate.

Parkinson made this obvious to the Wrexham team, but he also noticed similar symptoms against Stevenage.

Wrexham have been on a tremendous high in recent years, and losing games has not been a common occurrence.

Parkinson plainly believes that his players are not in the correct frame of mind when they go behind, and this is something they need address on moving forward.

League One is a difficult competition, and Wrexham will surrender goals and lose games; that is simply the way of the game.

Parkinson, on the other hand, wants to ensure that the lows aren’t too low and will be keen to resolve this issue following many incidents in recent weeks.
