The Saints snapped a five-game losing run at Vitality Stadium.

Southampton stopped a five-game winless streak and climbed out of the relegation zone with a 1-0 Premier League victory over Bournemouth on Wednesday.

Che Adams headed in a cross from Romain Perraud in the ninth minute at Vitality Stadium, and the visitors held on to give manager Ralph Hasenhuttl a crucial victory. Bournemouth lost for the first time under interim manager Gary O’Neil, who had led the mid-table Cherries to a six-game undefeated streak since replacing Scott Parker. Gavin Bazunu, the Saints’ goalkeeper, denied Philip Billing twice in the first half, first from close range in the 16th minute and again from long range at the half hour mark. Marcos Senesi almost equalized just after halfway, but his header flew wide. The victory moved Hasenhuttl’s squad up four positions to 14th place, relieving some pressure on the Saints manager.

O’Neill took over after Bournemouth dismissed Parker following a 9-0 loss to Liverpool on August 27.
