SUDBURY, Ontario — On Sunday, the Pittsburgh Penguins defeated the Ottawa Senators 5-2 in an NHL pre-season game at Sudbury Community Arena. Evgeni Malkin scored three goals and Sidney Crosby added two.
The Senators led 2-1 in the first period with goals from Nick Cousins and Tim Stutzle. However, the Penguins’ veterans recovered to take a 3-2 lead into the third period and added two more in the final frame, despite being outshot 30-19.
The Penguins scored twice on the power play, with defenceman Kris Letang contributing two assists. Malkin also contributed an assist for a four-point game.
The Penguins’ starting goalkeeper, Tristan Jarry, stopped 24 of 26 shots before being replaced by Filip Larsson, who made four stops.
The Senators’ goalie, Anton Forsberg, stopped 14 out of 18 shots.
