Birmingham City man back in full training ahead of Huddersfield Town and Charlton Athletic clashes

Birmingham City man back in full training ahead of Huddersfield Town and Charlton Athletic clashes.

According to a BirminghamLive article, defender Dion Sanderson of Birmingham City is back in full training.

The center defender for Birmingham City has been sidelined recently due to a foot issue. He is currently back on the field with his colleagues, though, trying to ram his way into Chris Davies’ plans.

Sanderson, 24, joined the Midlands team in 2022 on a temporary loan that was later extended to a permanent agreement. He was a member of the Blues team that was demoted from the Championship the previous season. June 2027 is when his St Andrew’s contract expires.

BirminghamLive reports that he has returned to training in the most recent update on his condition. This season, he has made two appearances: one in League One and the other in the Carabao Cup.

He faces a battle to get into the team though ahead of the likes of Christoph Klarer, Krystian Bielik and Ben Davies.

Birmingham City selection update

Sanderson provides competition and depth to Birmingham City’s defensive department.

It is hard to see him getting into the starting XI anytime soon though due to competition from Klarer, Bielik and Davies.

Since joining the Blues, the man from the West Midlands has participated in 76 games and scored three goals.

He progressed through the youth ranks of rivals Wolves, where he began his career.

During his tenure at Molineux, Sanderson was a regular at several different youth levels and made one appearance for the main team.

In order to gain some experience, he was loaned out to Birmingham City, Cardiff City, Sunderland, and QPR.

What now?

Sanderson is a viable alternative for Davies now that he has healed from his injury.

The Blues, who lead the standings above Wrexham, will play again tomorrow night at home against Huddersfield Town in an attempt to maintain their winning streak.

On Saturday, they go to The Valley to face off against Charlton Athletic.
