Saints extend Superdome lease for another 5 years; deal keeps team in Louisiana through 2030

Greg Bensel, vice president of communications for the New Orleans Saints, said on Wednesday that the

team and the state had renewed their lease deal, allowing the team to play in the Superdome for an additional five years.

The agreement, which was viewed as merely formal by both sides, ensures that the club will remain in

Louisiana until 2030. Bensel claimed that the December 31 deadline served as the impetus for the action.

Bensel stated in a statement, “We are currently working through some of the finer points of the deal so

that we can get to a comprehensive long-term lease with the state.” “Securing the franchise through 2030

and enabling the city to host the Super Bowl in 2025 are the primary goals of initiating the extension.

We anticipate soon completing and announcing a long-term agreement.

The current leasing agreement was signed in 2010, setting the stage for the Saints’ most successful run in franchise history.

The deal calls for a $85 million makeover of the Superdome, increasing the Saints’ home game revenue

streams while capping the team’s yearly direct subsidies at $6 million.

The NFL has promised to hold the 10th Super Bowl in New Orleans in conjunction with it.

Super Bowl 59 is scheduled to be played at the Superdome on Feb. 9, 2025.
