Review: Mary Poppins at Bristol Hippodrome

Helen from Visit West reviews Mary Poppins at The Bristol Hippodrome

I was thrilled to witness the show because I am a major admirer of the classic movie. I was thrilled to see that it kept

the charm and iconic melodies of the film while offering a new take on the narrative, captivating me from beginning to end.

Mary Poppins with children

Watching this show was like being transported to the pages of a gorgeous pop-up storybook because of the exquisite

stage design. The audience was clapping and singing along with the choreography on well-known tracks like Step in

Time, and the show’s excitement was contagious. There were amazing and numerous special effects. I won’t give

anything away, but my daughter and I are still trying to figure out how Bert was able to avoid gravity!

Each member of the cast was exceptional in their role. The portrayal of Mary Poppins by Stepfanie Jones was

mesmerising. Jack Chambers brought charm and vitality to the role of Bert. Florence Swann (playing Jane) and

Charlie Donald (playing Michael) deserve special recognition for their outstanding performances as the Banks

children.

The Bristol Hippodrome’s Mary Poppins performance was a fantastic evening that was “practically perfect in every way.”

Up until November 30, Mary Poppins will be performing at Bristol Hippodrome. Go here to purchase your tickets.
