Chris Wood nets winner as Nottingham Forest beat Ipswich

With a 1-0 home Premier League victory over Ipswich, Nottingham Forest got back to winning ways thanks to a

crucial penalty kick from Chris Wood in the second half.

Shortly after halftime, Wood scored a powerful penalty kick to move Forest up to sixth place in the standings,

continuing his outstanding goal-scoring record this season.

At the beginning of this month, Nuno Espirito Santo’s high-flyers had risen to third place before their impressive

ascent was cut short by back-to-back losses to Newcastle and Arsenal.

After their sixth top-flight loss of the season, Ipswich, who haven’t won at the City Ground since 1999, hardly made

an impression in a game with few clear-cut scoring opportunities and are still in the bottom three.

Kieran McKenna’s team, which held Manchester United 1-1 at Portman Road last week after winning their first

league game of the season at Tottenham, was unable to build on their own recent success.

Morgan Gibbs-White headed a corner off target, and Ipswich forward Sammie Szmodics diverted Neco Williams’ low

goal-bound effort wide, giving Forest a quick start.

After settling into the match, Ipswich had their first real chance in the 24th minute when defender Cameron Burgess’

header was clawed clear off the goal-line by Ola Aina.

Soon after, Omari Hutchinson’s low angled shot caused Forest goalkeeper Matz Sels to make a superb low save,

while Williams’ free kick went just wide at the other end.

There wasn’t much entertainment during the first half, but things changed four minutes after the restart.

Jota Silva’s ankle was clipped by Szmodics in the box, and Wood scored his ninth league goal of the season into the

roof of the net after referee Tony Harrington’s decision to give a penalty was confirmed by VAR.

Shortly after Silva’s hooked cross, Ipswich goalkeeper Arijanet Muric expertly tipped Murillo’s header onto the

crossbar, denying Forest a second.
