A winger is “unlikely” to play football again this season, according to Ipswich Town manager Kieran McKenna, while
an attacker is expected to make a comeback ahead of tomorrow’s match against Leicester City at Portman Road.
Chiedozie Ogbene, a summer acquisition, may be sidelined for the remainder of the season after ripping his Achilles
during Saturday’s 4-3 loss to Brentford at the Gtech Community Stadium.
Omari Hutchinson will be welcomed back after missing the trip to London due to illness, while Harry Clarke will be
suspended after his dismissal against the Bees.
“Chieo had surgery yesterday, it was an Achilles tear,” Blues manager Kieran McKenna stated during today’s
pregame press conference.
“He’s a fairly upbeat guy, and the procedure went great. Although he is in a good mood, it is possible that he will not
play much or any football this season due to that kind of injury.
“Now, a lot of it will be focused on getting ready for the upcoming season; anything else would be a bonus.”
The right-back Since Axel Tuanzebe (hand injury) and Clarke are out, McKenna is relieved that Johnson has
resumed training following a thigh issue.
“We have to make a decision on that one again,” he added, adding that Ben trained a little bit today and performed
some set plays yesterday.
He hasn’t trained much and has been absent for a long time. Although it will be a tough game, he is currently in a
situation where we require assistance.
“So, after the session, we’re going to make that call and talk to those players.”
After missing the Brentford trip due to a hamstring injury sustained during the Everton game, captain Sam Morsy
was back on the field this morning.
“He’s trained today, so we have to make a judgment,” McKenna stated. Really, he has been missing since the Everton
game.
“He should be available for the squad because he completed one session, but we’ll need to make a decision with him
regarding the number of minutes, and that discussion will take place later today.”
McKenna gave Swedish midfielder Cajuste, who came back to training after a knee injury, credit for replacing Morsy
against the Bees.
