Sheffield United are reportedly set to complete the signing of former West Ham United and Manchester City defender Jamal Baptiste.
The 20-year-old came up via West Ham’s development system but left the club in 2023 to sign for Manchester City.
He only stayed at the Etihad Stadium for one season, as the Premier League champions decided to release the defender at the end of the 2023/24 season.
Baptiste was on trial with Portsmouth in the summer, but the Daily Mirror reports he is likely to join Sheffield United as a free agent.
He is thought to have impressed during his trial at Bramall Lane, and the Blades are now claimed to be close to finalising a deal.
Despite his lack of senior experience, Baptiste has represented England at several junior levels. He has also played first-team football in Belgium, having been loaned to Lommel by Manchester City.
He made his senior debut for West Ham in the FA Cup in January 2021, and then made his Europa League debut against Dinamo Zagreb in December of the same year.
Former West Ham forward Carlton Cole compared Baptiste, a ball-playing centre-back, to former Manchester United stalwart Rio Ferdinand.
