Boyd, a former Gers striker who won two league titles with the club, was incensed after seeing them suffer back-to-back away defeats. “There is no way this can continue at Rangers and somebody needs to get a grip of it,” he told the crowd. “He now needs to go – if there is progression, you can give him some leeway, but eight of today’s 11 were already at the football club before he arrived, which is hardly progression.

“The Rangers’ starting lineup featured no left-footed players. It’s an imbalance throughout the pitch. And I know some would respond, “What difference does it make?” However, if you have the ball and are constantly entering the pitch, there is no space on the outside and everything becomes packed.
