Emergency services called after fireworks ‘thrown at people’ in Birmingham student accom

Following pyrotechnics that were “thrown at people and police,” emergency personnel were dispatched to a student

residence in Birmingham.

Following reports of pyrotechnics being thrown at individuals, police and fire personnel swarmed the area around

Aston University, which is located between Bagot Street and Staniforth Street, this morning.

It is also thought that the suspects were setting off pyrotechnics at the residence halls of the campus.

Birmingham Live reports that two people may have been hurt and that a dispersal order has been issued for the area.

Two fire engines and a large number of police officers were seen approaching the site in a video that was posted to

TikTok.

“A Section 35 dispersal order has been put in place following calls from the public who were concerned about groups

of people launching fireworks at each other and neighboring buildings,” a West Midlands Police representative

stated. Anyone found to be involved in public order violations or any other criminal activity that is reported to us will

face consequences.

Another video, taken from above, shows a crowd of people gathered outdoors while fireworks can be heard in the

distance.

“This is horrendous,” the person filming the incident said, emphasizing their horror at the circumstance and calling

those putting off the fireworks “scum.”
