EXETER City manager Gary Caldwell celebrated two years in command of the Grecians yesterday by stating that there is no place he would rather be.

On October 24, 2022, the Scot was revealed as the unexpected replacement to Matt Taylor, who had departed St James Park to take over as manager of then-Championship side Rotherham United.

While Taylor has moved on to Bristol Rovers after being fired by the Merry Millers after only 13 months and 55 games in command, Caldwell is still doing an excellent job at St James Park, with the Grecians a more than adequate League One side.

Caldwell’s contributions have been so extensive that he has been connected to current managerial openings in the Championship. But, as he begins his third year in Devon, he has stated that, despite certain personal obstacles, he enjoys living at the Park.

“I can’t believe it’s been two years,” Caldwell stated. “It went by quickly, but there have been many highs and lows along the road, but I’m enjoying my time here and plan to stay for many more years.

“We keep going ahead and growing, and I believe the club has made significant development over the last two years. The difference from the training ground is that everything about the club seems like it has progressed, and we must continue to do so.

“I actually enjoy this football club. I enjoy working here. It’s a long way from home, which might be difficult for families, but I adore it.

“The club and the board have given me the finest backing I’ve ever had as a manager, and I believe it allows me to execute my job to the best of my ability.

“As long as I feel like this club is progressing and moving forward then hopefully, like I said, I’m here for a long time.”

Caldwell takes his sixth-placed City team to fifth-placed Huddersfield Town tomorrow, hoping to rebound from Tuesday’s 2-1 home setback to Reading.
