After just one season with the Red Sox, Dillon Lawson got a promotion.
Boston announced on Sunday morning that Lawson would be the club’s new assistant hitting coach. The 39-year-old spent the 2024 season as the Red Sox’s minor level hitting coordinator.
Lawson spent five seasons with the Yankees before joining Boston. He served as New York’s minor league hitting coordinator from 2019 to 2021, then as the Bronx Bombers’ hitting coach in 2022 and 2023. The Yankees led all of baseball in home runs during Lawson’s first season as hitting coach.
The Louisville native also has experience with the Houston Astros and four university institutions, including the University of Missouri.
Lawson will succeed previous assistant hitting coach Luis Ortiz on Alex Cora’s staff. The Red Sox reportedly fired six coaches after their disappointing 2024 season, including Ortiz.
