Kalvin Phillips, an on-loan midfielder at Ipswich Town, reportedly wants to return to Leeds United and is considering terminating his contract.

Kalvin Phillips’ career hasn’t gone as planned since leaving Leeds in the summer of 2022, when he won a lucrative move to Manchester City.

He’s struggled to find consistency and consistent games at Manchester City, forcing him to go out on loan twice in 2024, but he has yet to regain the form that made him England’s greatest defensive midfielder under Marcelo Bielsa.

Kalvin Phillips thought to have sights on the Leeds reunion.

According to a recent article by Football Insider, Phillips, who joined Ipswich Town on loan at the start of the season, has a promising future with the club.

They said that club officials at Portman Road are dissatisfied with the 28-year-old’s physical state, and he may have his loan terminated as a result.

Concerns have also been raised regarding Phillips’ desire to just return to Elland Road and regain his form.

Kieran McKenna refutes “nonsense” Phillips to Leeds reports.

Phillips performed admirably for Ipswich during their wild 4-3 loss to Brentford, passing crisply to George Hirst, who assisted Sammie Szmodics for the first goal.

The sad late goal that cost the Bees the game was enough to put McKenna in a bad mood, but he was especially upset over speculations concerning Phillips’ future.

According to the Daily Mail, he stated this after the match:

“What can I say about it?

“Proper nonsense, and I learned a long time ago in football that you can write something online, and it circulates and is picked up by a variety of media outlets, eventually becoming a story.”

“It’s just rubbish; there have been no chats of this nature, and I believe it’s a great pity. He had an excellent game today.”

Phillips has a foundation to build on from the Brentford clash.

Phillips was on the losing end of the game on Saturday, but his performance in midfield was promising for both himself and McKenna.

He was forceful in the tackle, calm in possession, and covered ground effectively, but his back four did not help him win.

Phillips’ return to Elland Road does not make sense at this moment, as he does not appear to be the same player we had prior to his departure.

The only chance for him is to regain his greatest form at Ipswich, and perhaps that door will remain open in the future.
