‘Unbelievable’ – Paul Merson amazed as £120m Leeds info shared on Sky Sports

Paul Merson can’t believe how well Leeds United is performing in the Championship after learning the club made £120 million in player sales last summer.

The Whites’ fortunes have changed dramatically under Daniel Farke following a disappointing start to the season in which they lost Archie Grey, Crysensio Summerville, and Georginio Rutter to Premier League clubs.

Jules Warren revealed live on Sky Sports [22 October, 7:37pm], Leeds brought in £120m from those three sales alone leaving Merson in disbelief.

Merson stated, “It’s unbelievable because usually when you come down [to the Championship], you sell all your best players, don’t you?” But they haven’t had to settle the books, and [they have] been fantastic so far this season.

“They’ve got rid of them players and the players they bring in, they know that they can play in that league – it’s hard playing at Leeds, it’s a hard place to play, it’s a Championship team but it’s really a Premier League club in my opinion with the fan base.”

Leeds United are flying high in the Championship

While Leeds were always expected to be strong contenders for the Championship title this season, the departure of three key players created concerns at Elland Road.

Farke, on the other hand, recruited brilliantly this summer to replace his players at a fraction of the cost of the sales, and his team appears to be more determined than ever to return to the Premier League this season.

The Whites have gotten the better end of the deal; Rutter has become a regular at Brighton, while Summerville is struggling for minutes at West Ham United, and Tottenham are looking to sanction a loan move for Archie Grey [Mucho Deporte], with his development best served away from North London.

Farke has worked marvels in the face of adversity this season, and despite Ethan Ampadu, Ilia Gruev, and Max Wober all suffering long-term injuries, the results have remained consistent.

Leeds will, of course, look to improve the situation in central midfield through free agency, but there is no questioning the stunning turnaround at Elland Road, and long may it continue.
