Evangelos Marinakis was served with a five-match stadium ban for spitting on the floor in Nottingham Forest’s Premier League match against Fulham on September 28.
The Forest owner received the ban last Friday for misconduct, with the reasoning behind the ban emerging on Tuesday.
Raul Jimenez scored the game’s lone goal from the penalty spot after VAR intervened, and Marinakis was observed spitting on the ground toward the referees after the 1-0 loss.
The 57-year-old claimed that he “felt a cough coming and he coughed on the floor, down and to his right which was away from the path the officials were taking” .
His statement, however, did not satisfy an independent regulatory body, which declared: “We are satisfied that he deliberately spat on the floor as the referee walked past him.”

“Significance for match officials is fueled by flagrant displays of disrespectful behavior like this. This behavior was not brought on by a decision made on the field in the heat of the moment. There’s no justification for it.The sanction is made worse by EM’s ownership of the football team. His actions were completely inappropriate and deserved harsh punishment.
This is the most recent in a string of penalties Forest has received after Morgan Gibbs-White was suspended for one game and head coach Nuno Espirito Santo was fined £55,000 and banned for three games due to their actions during the 2-2 draw against Brighton & Hove Albion in September.
