Nottingham Forest was smart not to spend money on the £30 million star this summer, as I witnessed..

The Eagles came to Trentside seeking their first league win of the season, and Forest had to fight hard to defeat them.

Throughout the game, Matz Sels made seven stops for Forest, and at times, it seemed like the team owed him a debt of gratitude.

Chris Wood, who is in scorching form at Forest, received yet another round of plaudits from Ally McCoist following his fifth goal in eight games this season.

Dean Henderson made a mistake that led to his goal last night, but he will undoubtedly take it after missing a few other opportunities.

From a Forest point of view, the team sheet for last night’s matchup included a few interesting names.

Of course, there was Henderson, but in the summer, Oliver Glasner talked Eddie Nketiah out of a move to Forest, giving them an opportunity to watch him play.

Eddie Nketiah struggled against Nottingham Forest

After finally getting an opportunity to play as a striker through the middle, Nketiah had a somewhat disappointing evening versus Forest.

Perhaps concerning given his £30 million price tag is the fact that he hasn’t scored a goal for Palace this season.

Since Nketiah is 25 years old, he can no longer be considered young, and he needs to concentrate on advancing his career.

Santiago Gimenez was another player Forest attempted to sign, but ultimately the team chose to save money in the summer.

Nketiah only touched the ball 31 times in his 65 minutes on the field yesterday night, which was just two more touches than Henderson, who played in goal, according to Who Scored.

Sofa Score has him down as giving possession away 10 times, whilst his shots were somewhat erratic at best.

Forest got lucky escape with Nketiah

Nketiah would be a fantastic fit for Palace, but this wouldn’t have made much sense given Forest’s more astute transfer strategy.

The guy already appears to be having difficulty making an impression at Palace, and he does not appear to have been Arsenal’s top pick.

If Forest does ultimately spend £30 million on a striker, the player must be able to join the team right away and have an effect.

Last night, Forest supporters had a front-row ticket to see why Nketiah was never going to be that player.

The club’s search for a new striker may be put on hold for a time because Wood is currently hammering them in.

Hopefully, Forest will be able to sign a striker with more skill and potential than Nketiah showed last night when it comes time to push the boat out.
