A lithium battery malfunctioned, causing a fire in an east London residential tower block that forced the evacuation of roughly thirty individuals, according to the London Fire Brigade (LFB).
After receiving many calls to the emergency services at around 8:00 BST, firefighters arrived to find the inside and balcony of a tenth-floor apartment in a 15-story complex on Queens Road West, Plaistow, ablaze.
Crews used a crane to reach the flames and put them out, bringing the fire under control.
Additionally, the London Ambulance Service reported that it treated two victims, one of whom was released at the site and the other was brought to the hospital as a priority.
According to the LFB, its investigating team thinks a lithium battery malfunction caused the fire to start unintentionally. Additionally, they reported that three individuals had departed the building prior to their arrival at the site.
On the scene were firefighters from Stratford, Plaistow, East Ham and other nearby fire stations. Although the fire is now under control, the brigade stated on X (previously Twitter) that traffic in the region will be affected while firefighters stay on the scene.
